Tree Service in Memphis, TN
Family-owned · ISA Certified Arborist · Fully Insured
Robinson Tree Service has been caring for Memphis trees for three generations. The company was started by Mr. Robinson, passed down through the family, and is run today by Jason Sengel — an ISA Certified Arborist and urban forestry graduate — with his wife Cynthia managing the office. We are not a franchise and not a call centre. When you ring, you reach the people who will be doing the work.
What we do
- Tree Removal — We specialize in removing trees of all sizes, with a focus on large tree removal. Our certified arborists guarantee a quick, safe, and clean tree removal process.
- Tree Trimming — Your trees are valuable assets. Maintain their beauty, health, and safety with professional tree trimming services.
- Disease Control — We offer a free preventative checkup to assess the health of your trees. Our certified arborists will carefully diagnose whether your tree is healthy and safe.
- Firewood — Well seasoned firewood available year round for recycled heat for your home. Also, have various woods for smoking your favorite Memphis barbecue.
- Stump grinding — grinding the stump out so the ground can be turned back into lawn or planting.
- Storm damage response — getting a fallen tree off a house, fence or driveway, then assessing what is left standing.
Why Memphis trees need someone who knows Memphis
The tree canopy here is one of the best things about the city, and it is also old. Much of Midtown, East Memphis and the older suburbs was planted at the same time, which means whole streets of willow oaks, water oaks and sweetgums reaching maturity together — and reaching their weak points together.
Memphis weather does the rest. Straight-line winds take the dead limbs first. Long dry spells drive roots upward looking for water, which weakens the root plate just in time for the next heavy rain to soften the soil. A tree that has stood for eighty years can go over in one night, and the ones that fail are rarely the ones homeowners were worried about.
That is the whole argument for a preventative check-up. Thinning a canopy lets wind pass through instead of catching it like a sail. Taking out dead wood removes the limbs most likely to come down. Both cost a fraction of an emergency removal, and neither is guesswork once someone who knows the species has looked at the tree.
Why people call us

On insurance specifically: we carry $2,000,000 general liability and $1,000,000 workers’ compensation. Common questions
How much does tree removal cost in Memphis?
It depends on the tree's size, its condition, and what's underneath it. A dead pine in an open back yard and a sixty-foot oak leaning over a roof are completely different jobs, even at the same height. That's why every estimate is free and done in person — we would rather look at the tree than guess at a number over the phone.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Estimates are free, and so is a preventative check-up where our certified arborist walks your property and tells you which trees are sound and which need attention.
Are you insured?
Yes — $2,000,000 general liability and $1,000,000 workers' compensation. Ask any tree company for their certificate of insurance and verify it with the insurer. A quote far below everyone else's usually means someone is not carrying it, and if a worker is hurt on your property that becomes your problem.
Do you have a certified arborist?
Yes. Jason Sengel is an ISA Certified Arborist and a graduate of Texas A&M in Urban Forestry. He knows the species that grow here and how they behave in Memphis weather and Memphis soil.
How quickly can you come out after a storm?
Storm work is the exception to everything else — if a tree is on a house, a car, or blocking a drive, call 901-363-3539 and we will tell you honestly where you sit in the queue that day. If power lines are involved, call the utility first. Nobody should be near a line-crossed tree.
Can a leaning tree be saved?
Sometimes. A tree that has always leaned is often fine. A tree that started leaning recently, or has cracked soil lifting on one side of the trunk, usually has a failing root plate and is a different matter. That distinction takes an arborist standing at the base, not a photo.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Yes. Removing the tree is half the job — the other half is leaving the property clean. We haul off the wood, and we can grind the stump out as well.
Do you sell firewood?
We do — seasoned oak for burning and hickory, cherry, pecan and post oak for smoking. Prices and delivery options are on our firewood page.
